Twenty-two years ago Phil Conein founded TECHEAD with his partner and wife Philise Conein. Using their wedding money as working capital, they grew their business out of their small one bedroom apartment into an 8,000 square foot building in Richmond’s Shockoe Bottom.

TECHEAD is a creative IT professional solutions company that focuses on placing Creative, IT and Professional talent on long and short-term contracts. TECHEAD is also an Adobe Authorized Training Provider offering classes in popular applications such as InDesign, Photoshop, Flash and Dreamweaver and is the fifth ranked Adobe Training Center in the world. With offices in Richmond and Charlotte and Raleigh, North Carolina, TECHEAD currently has well over 180 employees and contractors working on and off site. Its clients range from the Fortune 500 and government agencies to local small businesses.

Phil Conein received his BFA from Virginia Commonwealth University. He serves on the RichTech Board of Directors and the Board of Directors the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts Business Council. He is an active member and former member of the Board of Directors of the Virginia Council of CEO’s.

TECHEAD Delivers Application for VDH

Richmond, VA -- March 8, 2007 – In August of 2006 Techead was contracted by the Virginia Department of Health's Virginia Vaccines for Children program to construct a replacement for an in-house application created for tracking and supervising vaccine providers for children. This application had been in use for 6 years with well established data, and was written with Microsoft Access. The new application was engineered using PHP5 and Microsoft SQL Server, running on Microsoft Windows Server. This solution overcomes the problems of a restricted number of form elements, and issues with network latency that the client was having with their original application. PHP5 provided a unique opportunity to provide the client with the ability to generate forms and reports from an XML structure, so that the staff would not require a working knowledge of programming in order to make changes to the application. The new application was delivered on January 5, 2007 and has passed the Department of Health's application regulations and has satisfied the clients requirements.

TECHEAD's Shockoe Bottom office interior has been selected to be the cover of the Spring 2006 issue of Creative Work Space magazine. We are honored to be selected to appear in the Premiere issue. TECHEAD's offices were severely damaged from the rains of Tropical Storm Gaston on August 30, 2004. After many months of renovation, we fully re-opened our headquarters in the Spring of 2005. TECHEAD was one of many, many teams who participated in the Chick-Fil-A Dodgeball Challenge on Saturday, October 22, 2005 at the Richmond Convention Center. The tournament raised over $50,000 for The Darrell Green Youth Life Foundation of Richmond and the Schools for Niger, Africa Fund. The monies will be used to begin building 2 schools in Niger, Africa and a learning center for children here in Richmond, VA.

Gaston - One Year Later

TECHEAD is Back in the Bottom

TECHEAD is pleased to annouce our return to Shockoe Bottom only two months after the flood caused by Tropical Storm Gaston forced us to seek higher ground.

Since the flood, we occupied a small office space at the Advantech building on Franklin at Fifth Street, but as of November 1, we're back in the turn-of-the-century building on 17th Street we call home.

Our location may have temporarily changed, but thanks to our great team, we never missed a step providing our customers with staffing solutions, and relocating our training facilities to accommodate our graphic design and multimedia students. Aside from being storm refugees, it was business as usual.

When you come to visit us, please note that our old entrance at 111 North 17th Street is closed for rennovations. We are upstairs and accessable by a door at 107. Once you climb the stairs, our entrance will be on your left.

MacIt Merges with TECHEAD

As of January 1, 2004, MacIt has merged with TECHEAD. MacIt is a Richmond, Virginia based Creative Staffing agency owned by Ruth Magee. The combined compaines will operate as TECHEAD and Ruth will be TECHEAD's Senior Creative Account Executive in charge of client relationships and business development.

Floppies For Kiddies

TECHEAD collected 1259 diskettes for the "Floppies for Kiddies Recycled Diskette Project." Dedicated to recycling used 3.5" diskettes for schools and non-profit organizations, since 1996, Floppies for Kiddies has collected and donated over 2 million disks to the needy.

Purple Squirrel 100

TECHEAD is announced as one of the "Purple Squirrel 100", an exclusive ranking of 100 of the fastest growing IT Staffing/Services firms in the U.S., and will be included in the December issue of Purple Squirrel Magazine (www.purplesquirrel.com) which will dedicate much of its coverage to the contest.

TECHEAD Collecting Floppies

TECHEAD Richmond starts collecting used 3.5" floppies to donate to Floppies For Kiddies (www.floppiesforkiddies.org) to benefit schools and non-profit organizations. "Our goal is to collect 1,000 floppies to send to the program by the end of the year" states Amber Smirnow, TECHEAD's Richmond training coordinator.
