We were born to unite with our fellow men, and to join in community with the human race.
With our founder Phil Conein winning the RichTech Community Catalyst Award last week, we’ve been thinking about what community really means to TECHEAD, to the Richmond region, and to business in general.
Given that we offer staffing, training, and consulting solutions, it could be said that we offer community-building services to our customers, because a business is a community. Our team here at TECHEAD is the core of our own community, and we hire for our team with an eye for adding community-minded folks who will help build a deeper connection for us, and our customers, in the communities we serve.
John Donne famously said “no man is an island” – no business is an island, either. None of us can isolate ourselves without withering. We all need each other to succeed, in business and in life. Which can make competition either a growth challenge, or can push an enterprise toward isolating itself.
Competition is important to the success of a business. So is collaboration, and community. We have always believed that we accomplished more by engaging with everyone in our space – customers, competitors, community-focused groups like RichTech and Shockoe Design District – and the award that Phil Conein received last week solidifies our conviction that we’re on the right path.
What are you doing for your community? All of us need to contribute in some way – from coaching youth sports to building bridges between industry groups – so we encourage you to think about how you can make a difference.
And then … go do it!
