Electrical Engineer
Location: Onsite, Charlotte, NC
Job Description:
This position is responsible for the design, installation, integration, configuration, diagnosis, security, and commissioning of Industrial Control Systems (ICS) related to water treatment and distribution as well as wastewater treatment and collection. The role requires expertise in electrical, instrumentation, and control systems and includes ensuring ICS security, data integrity, and operational guidelines. Additional responsibilities include developing Human Machine Interface (HMI) and Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) systems, configuring equipment, troubleshooting, and providing training to operators.
The role also involves creating and maintaining servers, network equipment, firewalls, and other utility programs. Collaboration with other departments to design database schemas for ICS integration, performing system diagnostics, and supporting software and hardware issues are key aspects of this role.
Responsibilities:
- Design, program, and commission SCADA-based automated control systems.
- Identify, test, and implement process control improvements in collaboration with stakeholders.
- Provide technical support during the design, construction, and startup phases for capital infrastructure projects.
- Coordinate with internal and/or contract electrical and instrumentation staff as needed.
- Troubleshoot and support plant control systems, instrumentation, motor control equipment, power distribution equipment, UV systems, and SCADA.
- Commission new equipment and train plant operations and maintenance staff.
- Participate in capital improvement project meetings and review project design documentation.
- Procure goods and services, including preparing technical documentation and CAD electrical drawings.
- Perform administrative duties related to purchasing equipment.
- Write, review, and modify code for Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC), SCADA, and HMI applications for water and wastewater systems.
- Perform other related duties and special projects as assigned.
Minimum Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field from an accredited institution.
- Three (3) years of relevant work experience, preferably involving position-specific software.
- OR an equivalent combination of education and relevant work/industry/military/job-specific experience.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Knowledge of Modicon PLCs, AutomationDirect PLCs, Wonderware software, and Ignition software.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to work in an industrial environment around chemicals, solvents, and dust.
