Job Description:
Marketing Communications Specialist
Onsite
Direct Hire
Richmond, VA
Responsibilities:
- Writes content for a wide range of communications, including website, e-newsletter, social media posts, multimedia news releases, etc.
- Writes for and manages the social media platforms and provides oversight of live events. platforms.
- Consults with the communications director regularly to develop content and strategy for the client’s digital platforms, advancing the frequency of timely content to increase engagement and the digital experience from site visitors and the diocese’s diverse audiences.
- Working knowledge and use of social media management platform tools, Hootsuite, etc.
- Keeps up to date on social media trends and analysis.
- Supports the communications director with media relations.
- Writes and edits website content for the homepage or to ensure consistency with office style and (text, images, graphics, audio-visual, URLs, links, and files) and ensures the overall content of the website is reflective of the voice.
- Assists in the support and updates of the Communications and Digital Media Policy. Updates as needed.
- Works in collaboration with the office’s creative director to assist in creation of graphics, flyers, or other digital/print materials, as needed.
- Collects and analyzes data from digital content to report to and strategize with the communications director on best practices of increasing engagement.
- Assists in building and monitoring content, brand presence and engagement for the diocesan website and across social media messaging.
- Assists the office with proofing written materials.
- Serves as a communications photographer covering programs and events as needed.
- Assists in maintaining communication files and good working relations with staff and volunteers.
- Serves as a communications liaison with other offices to assist with projects.
- Professionally interacts with the general public whether by phone, email and person-to-person.
Requirements:
- Good working knowledge of the structure and teachings of the Catholic Church is needed, but not required.
- At least 2-3 years working in communications or related field.
- Must have extensive knowledge and experience working with social media usage, strategy, and platforms.
- Analytics of this platform is a plus.
- Proficiency with various PC software, including Microsoft Office, digital content management systems (WordPress), and social media platforms.
- Familiarity with Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator, Acrobat Professional) and Google Analytics a plus.
- Excellent written and oral communications skills with a strong attention to detail and accuracy.
- Self-motivated with strong organizational and planning skills under deadlines.
Education:
Bachelor’s degree in English, Mass Communications, Journalism, or relevant field.
