Job Description:
Senior Software Engineer (C++)

Techead is looking for a Senior C++ Software Engineer to join one of our client’s teams in the Norfolk, VA area!  This role supports a government client, and as such requires an active Secret Clearance.

Position responsibilities:

  • Consult with hardware engineers and other engineering staff to evaluate interface between hardware and software, and operational and performance requirements of overall system.
  • Consult with client to prototype, refine, test, and debug programs to meet needs.
  • Write and maintain technical specifications.
  • Design and code screen layouts, graphical user interfaces, printed outputs, and interfaces with other systems.
  • Convert designs and specifications into computer code.
  • Compile code into programs and corrects errors detected in compile process.
  • Create test transactions and runs tests to find errors and confirm programs meet specifications.
  • Analyze code to find causes of errors and revises programs.
  • Write and maintain documentation to describe program development, logic, coding, testing, changes, and corrections.
  • Write documentation or reviews documentation written by others that describes installation and operating procedures.
  • Provide technical assistance by responding to inquiries from others regarding errors, problems, or questions about programs.
  • Install and tests programs at client site.
  • Monitor performance of programs after implementation.
  • Provide technical support to project team members.
  • Participate in the evaluation of new technical resources.
  • Support Business Development activities including but not limited to presentations and their development, meetings, contract and proposal support.
  • Support leading and mentoring of junior personnel.

 Must haves: 

  • BS degree in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or similar.
  • Active US Secret Clearance.
  • 10 years of experience in Computer Science or Engineering field.
  • 5+ years of professional experience in C++.
  • Experience with Linux systems (Unix, Linux, or MS-DOS accepted as well).
  • Experience with contractual related project/work environment, in providing engineering support to electronic maintenance and modification systems, and in establishing processes/guidelines for electric design.
  • Equivalent experience may be substituted in lieu of degree depending on domain experience and contractual requirements.
