Job Description:

Onsite in Salem, VA
Long-term contract opportunity

We are seeking a proactive and customer-focused Technical Support Specialist to provide comprehensive hardware and software support for the Salem District. This role is unique in its focus on field staff support—you won’t just be sitting behind a desk; you will empower team members to use new technology innovatively to improve their daily operations.

This is a strictly onsite role requiring daily travel within the district. You will serve as the face of IT, troubleshooting complex issues and ensuring that critical agency devices are performing at peak efficiency.


Key Responsibilities

  • End-User Support: Provide Tier II troubleshooting for desktops, laptops, and wireless devices for staff throughout the Salem District.

  • Technology Innovation: Work closely with field staff to integrate new technologies into their workflows, helping them utilize mobile and desktop tools more effectively.

  • Incident Management: Manage and resolve hardware and software issues via a help request tracking system, ensuring timely escalation and clear communication with users.

  • Software Administration: Support and manage the Microsoft ecosystem, including Windows, SharePoint, MS Office Suite (Online), and MS Teams.

  • Field Mobility: Travel to various sites within the district to provide hands-on support and device management.


Required Qualifications

  • Location: Must be local to the Roanoke/Salem, VA area.

  • Availability: Must be able to work onsite Monday–Friday, 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM (No exceptions).

  • Licensing: Must possess a valid Driver’s License with a clean driving record (position requires operation of a state-owned vehicle).

  • Technical Proficiency: * Expertise in the Microsoft Desktop environment (Windows 10/11, MS Office 365, Teams, and SharePoint).

    • Experience with hardware troubleshooting for laptops, tablets, and mobile devices.

    • Proficiency with ticketing systems and reporting tools.

  • Soft Skills: A “customer-first” attitude with the ability to communicate technical concepts to non-technical users clearly and professionally.

Additional Information

  • Travel: Daily travel within the district using a state vehicle.

  • Contract Lifecycle: This position is expected to extend annually, offering long-term stability for the right candidate.
