Job Description:
100% on site Bedford, MA
We are seeking an Information System Security Officer (ISSO) to support the daily cybersecurity and information assurance operations for our customer organization. In this role, you will act as the frontline coordinator for system security, ensuring that assigned information systems are operated, maintained, and disposed of in accordance with established Air Force, DoD, and federal cybersecurity directives.
Key Responsibilities

Daily System Monitoring & Auditing: Conduct regular security audits, review system logs, and analyze scan results to identify vulnerabilities, unauthorized access, or policy deviations.

RMF Support & Documentation: Assist in compiling and maintaining Risk Management Framework (RMF) artifacts, system security plans (SSPs), and Certification and Accreditation (C&A) documentation.

Account & Access Management: Verify user eligibility, validate security clearances, and ensure proper “need-to-know” authorization is documented before creating or modifying system accounts.

Vulnerability Remediation: Work closely with system administrators to track, patch, and remediate identified vulnerabilities. Maintain and update Plans of Action and Milestones (POA&Ms) for unresolved items.

Incident Reporting & Response: Assist with the initial triage, containment, and reporting of potential security incidents or spills in compliance with installation cybersecurity policy.

User Training Support: Administer and track initial security briefings and annual Information Assurance (IA) refresher training to ensure all personnel are aware of their security responsibilities.

Hardware/Software Control: Maintain hardware and software inventories for assigned systems, ensuring that only authorized and configurations-controlled assets are connected to the network.
Required Security & Certifications

Clearance: Active DoD Secret clearance is required (with the ability to obtain/maintain TS/SCI if needed).

DoD 8570 Compliance: Active CompTIA Security+ (or equivalent IAT Level II certification) is required.
Education & Experience Requirements
-
Education: Associate or Bachelors degree in Cybersecurity, Information Technology, or a related field.

Substitution: Direct, hands-on technical experience within a military/federal IT environment may be substituted for formal education.

Experience: 24 years of experience working with cybersecurity, system administration, or information assurance practices within the DoD or a federal agency.
Core Competencies & Skills

Technical Foundations: Basic understanding of network protocols, operating systems (Windows/Linux), and vulnerability scanning tools (such as ACAS/Nessus).

Compliance Knowledge: Familiarity with standard DoD cybersecurity instructions, STIGs (Security Technical Implementation Guides), and basic RMF processes.

Organization & Detail: Strong record-keeping abilities with a disciplined approach to executing highly detailed military processes and procedures.

Communication: Clear written and verbal communication skills to interact effectively with system administrators, program managers, and end-users.
