Job Description:
System Architect | 22120
Location: Suffolk, VA (100% Onsite)
Clearance: TS/SCI
Employment Type: Full-Time
No C2C Candidates
Position Overview
As the Information System Project Architect, you will serve as the primary technical strategist and engineering lead for the DevSecOps pipeline and its core data center infrastructure. You will bridge the gap between complex mission requirements and scalable technology solutions.
You aren’t just designing systems; you are leading the evolution of how the DoD delivers high-fidelity simulation services to the Warfighter. This role demands a high-functioning hybrid of a Technical Architect and a Senior Project Manager to ensure every solution is secure, on schedule, and technically superior.
Key Responsibilities
-
Architectural Leadership: Lead the end-to-end design, documentation, and engineering management of technology solutions. You will translate DDJT business problems into robust technical blueprints.
-
Strategic Vision: Define the long-term technical roadmap for the DevSecOps pipeline. This includes analyzing the current technical environment and ensuring new integrations align with Joint Training mission objectives.
-
Stakeholder Integration: Act as the primary technical liaison between DDJT leadership (non-technical) and engineering teams (technical), ensuring mission requirements are translated into actionable sprints.
-
Technology Stack Optimization: Evaluate and select the appropriate stack (Cloud, On-prem, Hybrid) while balancing the “Iron Triangle” of project management: scope, cost, and time.
-
Project & Team Management: Develop comprehensive project plans, manage budgets, and oversee resource allocation. You will provide direct technical mentorship to cross-functional teams throughout the SDLC.
-
Risk & Compliance: Proactively identify technical bottlenecks and security risks. Ensure all solutions meet rigorous DoD non-functional requirements, including RMF compliance, scalability, and high availability.
-
Documentation & Innovation: Conduct feasibility studies for new designs and document best practices to foster a culture of knowledge sharing within the JS J7 ecosystem.
Required Qualifications
Clearance & Education:
-
Active TS/SCI Clearance.
-
Master’s Degree + 5 years of relevant experience OR Bachelor’s Degree + 10 years of experience (IT, Computer Science, or related field).
-
Minimum 5 years of experience directly supporting DoD major systems or programs.
Certifications:
-
DoD 8570 IAT Level II (One of the following: Security+ CE, CySA+, CCNA-Security, GICSP, GSEC, or SSCP).
-
Functional Area Certification: Required prior to start date.
-
Preferred: RHCSA (Red Hat Certified System Administrator) or RHCDS (Red Hat Certified Data Center Specialist).
Technical Mastery:
-
Systems Architecture: Expert-level knowledge of monolithic vs. distributed architectures and design patterns.
-
Cloud & Infrastructure: Hands-on experience with AWS, Azure, or GCP in a GovCloud/High-Side environment.
-
DevSecOps: Deep understanding of CI/CD pipelines, API design, and automation tools (Ansible, Terraform, Jenkins).
-
Networking & Security: Strong command of network protocols, encryption standards, and cybersecurity best practices.
Project Management:
-
Methodologies: Proficient in Agile (Scrum/XP) and Waterfall frameworks.
-
Resource Management: Proven ability to manage complex budgets and multi-disciplinary teams.
Soft Skills
-
Analytical Rigor: Ability to dissect complex business needs and transform them into technical reality.
-
Leadership: A natural mentor capable of motivating diverse teams in a high-pressure, 100% onsite environment.
-
Communication: Fluent in “Executive” and “Engineer”—able to explain complex technical debt to leadership and mission objectives to developers.
