Job Description:
Construction Inspector
Join our Facilities Management team as a Construction Inspector and play a critical role in ensuring the safety, quality, and timely completion of our construction projects. You’ll be the eyes on the ground, making sure all work is executed in strict compliance with state codes and contract documents, keeping our projects moving forward efficiently.
What You’ll Do (Essential Duties)

Perform comprehensive construction inspections on assigned projects to ensure strict compliance with the Commonwealth of Virginia Construction and Professional Services Manual, General Conditions (specifically Section 16, “Inspection”), and all applicable building codes.

Maintain project schedule integrity by ensuring all construction activities are performed safely and accurately, preventing delays to the critical path.

Conduct thorough reviews of construction documents (plans, specifications, submittals) for compliance and constructability.

Manage all project documentation, including creating detailed inspection reports, maintaining accurate project records, and processing necessary code-related authorizations.

Identify and resolve construction discrepancies, problems, and inconsistencies through clear documentation and prompt corrective action, working collaboratively with project teams.

Serve as a key point of contact, facilitating effective communication and coordination between contractors, design teams, and code officials.
Qualifications
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Experience

Extensive knowledge of construction procedures, principles, building codes, and regulations.

Considerable experience supervising construction projects or serving in a related inspection role, including proficiency in planning, estimating, interpreting blueprints, specifications, and labor laws.

Demonstrated ability to read and interpret complex construction contract documents and blueprints effectively.

Excellent communication skills (written and verbal) and demonstrated ability to use effective negotiation skills to resolve project issues.

Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel) and project scheduling software like MS Project.

Proven ability to maintain thorough, accurate records of all project conditions and situations.
Required Licenses and Certifications
-
Valid Driver’s License with an insurable driving record.
Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Experience (Nice-to-Haves)
-
State-recognized license in Commercial Building Inspection, Trade Master License, or ICC Building Inspection Certification.

Experience as a certified (city, state, or federal) building inspector.
-
Professional certification such as Project Management Professional (PMP).

Specific experience with on-site inspections of healthcare facilities (e.g., hospitals, clinics, labs) to evaluate compliance with patient care, security, and infection control standards.

Basic experience working with advanced scheduling software (e.g., Primavera, SureTrak).

Completion of the 10-Hour OSHA Training Course.

Working experience interacting with code officials in the Commonwealth of Virginia.

Proficiency in Microsoft PowerPoint.
