Environmental Compliance Coordinator (Regional travel is required)

Project Overview

We are seeking a dedicated professional to ensure company compliance with environmental, chemical, waste management, and permit regulations across various locations in the Eastern Region of Virginia. This role supports Electric Distribution operational teams and shares responsibility for the safe, efficient operation of work sites in accordance with regulatory and company Environmental, Health, and Safety standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Regulatory Oversight: Ensure compliance with all environmental permits and regulations related to chemicals and waste management.

  • Inspections & Assessments: Inspect work sites to provide actionable recommendations regarding environmental compliance to management and onsite personnel.

  • Reporting: Prepare and communicate detailed reports for internal stakeholders, customers, and governmental agencies.

  • Training: Provide environmental training to site personnel on topics including spill prevention, erosion and sediment control (ESC), and the handling of hazardous materials.

  • Support: Act as a subject matter expert for employees and contracted staff regarding environmental scope and permit requirements.

Required Qualifications

  • Education: 4-year Bachelor’s degree in an Environmental discipline.

  • Experience: Minimum of 4+ years of hands-on environmental field work specifically related to environmental scope and permits.

  • Certifications: * Virginia Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) Erosion and Sediment Control Inspector Certification.

    • Virginia DEQ Stormwater Inspector Certification.

  • Technical Knowledge: Deep understanding of environmental regulations and applicable requirements for complex project permits.

Top Required Skills

  1. Environmental Field Experience: Proven track record of performing onsite assessments and field work.

  2. Erosion & Sediment Control (ESC) / Stormwater Expertise: Current and active Virginia DEQ certifications are mandatory.

  3. Regulatory Literacy: Comprehensive experience with environmental laws and the specific requirements tied to environmental permits.

Soft Skills & Team Fit

  • Communication: Excellent written and oral communication skills for internal reporting and agency interaction.

  • Independence: Ability to work effectively in rugged field environments with minimal supervision.

  • Leadership: Strong problem-solving abilities and a leadership mindset to guide site personnel.

  • Organization: Superior time management and organizational skills to handle multiple site locations.

  • Tech-Savvy: Strong technological skill set for reporting and data management.

Travel: Eastern Region which includes eastern North Carolina/Outer Banks

Personal Vehicle:
Mileage will be reimbursement or may drive companys vehicle
