Job Description:
IT Systems Support Specialist
Location: 100% onsite – Virginia Beach, VA
Job Objective:
The Systems Specialist I supports the organization’s IT infrastructure by proactively monitoring systems, responding to incidents, and contributing to continuous service improvement. This role involves maintaining and troubleshooting a wide range of computing environments—from endpoints and servers to cloud platforms—using various hardware and software tools. The specialist will participate in infrastructure projects, manage service requests, document technical procedures, and collaborate with internal teams and external partners.
Duties and Tasks:

System Monitoring: Monitor network, servers, internet services, and applications to ensure performance and availability align with service level expectations.

Incident Response: Perform first-level diagnosis, remote troubleshooting, and event correlation to resolve issues or escalate when necessary.

Service Management: Manage service tickets from initiation to closure, document incident impacts, and contribute to regular status reporting.

Security & Maintenance: Support IT security operations including patching, antivirus remediation, and physical infrastructure checks.

Data Protection: Execute and manage backup and recovery operations, including scheduling, restoration, and troubleshooting.

Infrastructure Support: Provision and maintain network infrastructure, including analog lines, structured cabling, and physical network components.

Documentation: Create and maintain technical procedures, knowledge base articles, and root cause analysis reports for recurring issues.

Professional Development: Continuously develop skills in new technologies and operational strategies.

Operations: Participate in an after-hours on-call rotation and provide punctual, professional service in all interactions.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Technical Foundations: Knowledge of operating systems (Windows, macOS, Linux), network systems (Cisco IOS, wireless, cabling), and enterprise management (virtualization, inventory).

Networking: Understanding of TCP/IP, DNS, VPNs, firewalls, and tools like Wireshark or Fluke.

Problem Solving: Strong analytical skills with the ability to troubleshoot complex problems from discovery to resolution.

Scripting & AI: Baseline familiarity with Microsoft PowerShell and the ability to use AI assistant tools responsibly.

Communication: Excellent written and verbal skills for documenting findings and reporting incidents.

Soft Skills: Self-motivated, able to work independently in a fast-paced environment, and capable of prioritizing tasks under pressure.

Physical Requirements: Ability to lift 30 pounds, use basic tools, and use a ladder for overhead work.
Preferred Qualifications

Education: Associate’s degree in Computer Science, IT, Cybersecurity, or equivalent work experience.

Certifications: CompTIA (Server+, Network+, Linux+), Cisco CCNA, or Microsoft Azure Fundamentals.

Training: Completion of programs like Cisco Networking Academy or Microsoft Azure Administrator Boot Camp is a plus.
