Job Description:
12-month contract role
On-site in Newport News, VA
Job Summary:
The Logistics Coordinator supports the supply chain team by actively tracking and expediting inbound international purchase orders to ensure on-time delivery. This role works closely with global suppliers, freight forwarders, customs brokers, and internal stakeholders to identify potential risks, resolve transit delays, and maintain end-to-end visibility from origin through final delivery. The position is ideal for a detail-oriented professional who can efficiently manage multiple concurrent shipments and drive proactive follow-up.
Key Responsibilities:

Track international purchase orders from supplier shipment through to final delivery.

Monitor critical transit milestones, including factory ship dates, port departures, customs clearance, and domestic arrival.

Communicate regularly with suppliers, freight forwarders, and customs brokers to confirm status and resolve operational issues.

Identify late or at-risk shipments and escalate concerns to buyers or supply chain leadership.

Update shipment status, ETA dates, and logistical notes in the ERP and tracking systems.

Review shipping documentation (commercial invoices, packing lists, bills of lading) for accuracy and completeness.

Support import compliance initiatives by ensuring all required documentation is received and routed appropriately.

Coordinate with internal departments (purchasing, inventory, logistics, and accounts payable) to support the receiving and payment processes.

Maintain organized digital records and provide clear, timely status updates to stakeholders.
Qualifications:
-
13 years of experience in expediting, logistics, supply chain, or international trade operations (relevant internship or temporary experience is acceptable).

Basic understanding of international shipping frameworks and inbound logistics processes.

Strong follow-up, negotiation, and communication skills.

High attention to detail with the ability to multitask and prioritize effectively in a dynamic environment.

Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Outlook.

Ability to work independently within a fast-paced corporate setting.
Preferred Qualifications:

Direct experience working with imported products (via ocean or air freight).

Familiarity with Incoterms, customs clearance processes, and standard freight documentation.

Experience utilizing ERP platforms or dedicated supply chain tracking software.

Prior experience collaborating directly with third-party freight forwarders or customs brokers.
Work Environment & Schedule:

Setting: Office environment.
-
Status: Temporary contract assignment with potential for extension based on business needs.

Hours: Standard business hours (Monday Friday, 7:30 AM 4:30 PM with a 1-hour lunch break)
