Job Description:

Job Title: Accountant
Location: Newport News, VA
Schedule: 8:30 AM – 5:00 PM
Work Model: Hybrid (flexible remote days)
Contract Type: 1-Year Contract, W2 only (No C2C)

Position Summary:

We are seeking a detail-oriented Accountant to support financial reporting, asset management, and monthly close processes in a collaborative hybrid work environment. The ideal candidate is either a recent accounting graduate or has at least one year of relevant accounting experience. This role requires proficiency with Microsoft Office tools and a strong commitment to accuracy and process improvement.

Key Requirements:

• Attention to Detail: Strong focus on accuracy and formatting.

• Experience:

  • Minimum 1 year of recent accounting experience (open to new graduates with an accounting/business-related degree).

  • Minimum 1 year of experience using Outlook, Teams, Excel, and Word.

• Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or related business field (equivalent experience may be considered).

• Preferred:

  • Experience with Oracle and fixed asset accounting is a plus (training provided).

Responsibilities:

• Prepare monthly account reconciliations and ensure accurate tie-outs to the trial balance.

• Reconcile Construction in Progress (CIP) accounts and track capital project spend against budgets.

• Perform monthly financial reporting and provide accurate reports to executives and finance teams.

• Process and review weekly Small Capital Expenditure (CapEx) applications and compile approval documentation.

• Load and reconcile asset capitalization data into the Oracle Fixed Asset system.

• Monitor and respond to asset-related transaction requests via email.

• Provide support for corporate and external audit data requests.

• Partner with internal stakeholders (Finance, IT, Field Operations, SSC, etc.) to resolve open transactions and investigate financial anomalies.

• Assist in monthly and year-end close processes, including journal entries and subledger procedures.

• Conduct income statement reviews to ensure proper expense coding and perform year-over-year comparisons.

• Apply a solid understanding of accounting principles to ensure accurate financial reporting.

• Conduct ad hoc financial analyses to support strategic decision-making.

• Perform additional duties and special projects as assigned.

• Willingness to work extended hours, including weekends, during peak periods (e.g., audits, fiscal year-end).
