Job Description:
Job Title: Accountant
Location: Newport News, VA
Schedule: 8:30 AM – 5:00 PM
Work Model: Hybrid (flexible remote days)
Contract Type: 1-Year Contract, W2 only (No C2C)
Position Summary:
We are seeking a detail-oriented Accountant to support financial reporting, asset management, and monthly close processes in a collaborative hybrid work environment. The ideal candidate is either a recent accounting graduate or has at least one year of relevant accounting experience. This role requires proficiency with Microsoft Office tools and a strong commitment to accuracy and process improvement.

Experience:

Minimum 1 year of recent accounting experience (open to new graduates with an accounting/business-related degree).

Minimum 1 year of experience using Outlook, Teams, Excel, and Word.

Education:

Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or related business field (equivalent experience may be considered).

Preferred:
-
Experience with Oracle and fixed asset accounting is a plus (training provided).

Responsibilities:
-
Prepare monthly account reconciliations and ensure accurate tie-outs to the trial balance.
-
Reconcile Construction in Progress (CIP) accounts and track capital project spend against budgets.
-
Perform monthly financial reporting and provide accurate reports to executives and finance teams.

Process and review weekly Small Capital Expenditure (CapEx) applications and compile approval documentation.

Load and reconcile asset capitalization data into the Oracle Fixed Asset system.

Monitor and respond to asset-related transaction requests via email.

Provide support for corporate and external audit data requests.

Partner with internal stakeholders (Finance, IT, Field Operations, SSC, etc.) to resolve open transactions and investigate financial anomalies.

Assist in monthly and year-end close processes, including journal entries and subledger procedures.

Conduct income statement reviews to ensure proper expense coding and perform year-over-year comparisons.

Apply a solid understanding of accounting principles to ensure accurate financial reporting.

Conduct ad hoc financial analyses to support strategic decision-making.

Perform additional duties and special projects as assigned.

Willingness to work extended hours, including weekends, during peak periods (e.g., audits, fiscal year-end).
