Job Description:

Lead DevOps Engineer (Linux)

This position is a key leadership role in supporting the U.S. Navy’s weather and ocean forecasting operations. You will be the lead programmer for a critical software system, COAMPS/COAMPS-OS, at Stennis Space Center.

Your primary focus will be on maintaining and improving this complex software. This includes:

  • Troubleshooting & Maintenance: Identifying and fixing bugs and other issues to keep the system running smoothly. You’ll be the go-to expert for solving technical problems.

  • Automation & Scripting: Using your expertise in Python and Linux to write scripts that automate routine tasks. This helps make the forecasting process more efficient and reliable.

  • Security & Compliance: Adapting the software to meet the Navy’s strict security requirements and technical standards.

  • Application Management: Overseeing the day-to-day operations of the application, ensuring it functions correctly within a Linux environment on both classified and unclassified networks.

  • Team Leadership: As the lead, you will guide and mentor other programmers, review their work, and ensure the quality of all changes to the system. You will also communicate directly with the customer (the Navy) to understand their needs and provide regular updates on project progress.

This is a hybrid remote position, requiring a Secret Clearance and a CompTIA Security+ certification (or the willingness to get it). You will work with cutting-edge technology to support a vital national security mission.
