Job Description:

Senior Systems Administrator (Virtualization & Cloud Infrastructure)

This is a 100% Onsite position supporting mission-critical operations.

As a Senior Systems Administrator, you will be a key player in designing, deploying, and maintaining our high-availability server and virtualization infrastructure. This hands-on role requires a deep technical background in VMware, Windows, and Linux environments, with a strong focus on automation and security compliance to support the JS J7 mission.

Core Responsibilities

  • Virtualization Mastery: Install, configure, and manage high-performance VMware vSphere environments, including ESXi hosts, vCenter Server, vMotion, HA, DRS, and comprehensive management of datastores (VMFS, NFS, iSCSI).

  • Storage and SDN: Implement, administer, and troubleshoot software-defined storage solutions, specifically VMware vSAN.

  • Operating System Administration: Expertly install, configure, and maintain mission-critical servers, primarily focusing on Windows Server (Active Directory, DNS, DHCP) and various Linux distributions.

  • Security & Compliance: Proactively apply OS-level patches and security updates. Ensure all servers strictly adhere to security baselines, compliance requirements, and government standards.

  • Automation: Develop, test, and maintain robust scripts using PowerShell/PowerCLI, Python, and Bash to automate routine system administration, monitoring, and deployment tasks across the entire server and VM lifecycle.

  • Troubleshooting & Support: Rapidly diagnose and resolve complex issues related to server performance, OS failures, network connectivity, and application interaction within the virtualized environment.

  • Data Center Operations: Work directly with enterprise-level servers, networking gear, and other data center infrastructure components

Candidates must possess a minimum of 3 years of hands-on experience in each of the following core technical areas:

  • Virtualization: Deep, practical experience with VMware vSphere technologies (ESXi, vCenter, vMotion, HA, DRS, and vSAN). Familiarity with other platforms like Microsoft Hyper-V is a plus.

  • Operating Systems: Administration and hardening of both Windows Server (including Active Directory, DNS, and DHCP) and Linux environments.

  • Automation & Scripting: Demonstrated ability to develop and use scripts for operational automation using PowerShell, PowerCLI, Python, and/or Bash.

  • Storage Technologies: Hands-on experience with vSAN, SAN, NAS, and storage protocols including iSCSI, Fibre Channel, and NFS.

  • Networking Fundamentals: A strong, practical understanding of network protocols, including TCP/IP, DNS, and VLANs, with proven basic network troubleshooting skills.

  • Hardware: Experience managing and maintaining enterprise-level server hardware and data center infrastructure.

Clearance & Certifications

  • Clearance: Must hold an active Secret clearance (Top Secret Eligible).

  • IAT Level II Certification: Must possess or be willing to obtain one of the following before the start date:

    • Security+

    • CySA+

    • CCNA – Security

    • GICSP

    • GSEC

    • SSCP

  • Functional Area Certification: A functional certification (e.g., VMWare VCP, MCSA/MCSE, RHCSA, CCNA, Network+) is required prior to the start date.
