To showcase the incredible talent of our team, we want to shine a spotlight on individual employees each month. This month, our Employee Spotlight is on TECHEAD Sr. Recruiter, Garrett Alt.

Garrett joined the team at TECHEAD in May 2026 as a Sr. Recruiter. He lives in the Canton neighborhood of Baltimore with his wife, Gabriela, and their cat, Sombra. We asked Garrett a few questions to get to know him better:

Work & Career

1. What is your favorite part of working at TECHEAD?
The culture. Everyone here is so friendly, and the culture is aimed toward supporting candidates and prioritizing communication with them. There is a lot of pride in our work at TECHEAD, and I am very excited to be a part of it.

2. What are you most proud of in your career so far?
How far I have come as a recruiter. I spent the first seven years of my career learning and growing in the role, and I am glad to now be at a firm that prioritizes the candidate experience and walking candidates through the recruiting lifecycle.

3. What do you think makes our team culture unique?
The emphasis on communication. A lot of firms focus mostly on numbers, but TECHEAD cares about the candidate and client experience, making sure to prioritize communication throughout the process.

4. What’s your favorite thing you’ve worked on while at TECHEAD so far?
The attention to detail and the central hub that Tracker provides. It allows all communication to flow through it and also tracks tasks and to-do items, which makes organizing the recruiting process a lot easier.

5. What is one thing that you wish people knew about your job?
We are not trying to knock candidates down on compensation. Our goal is to find a spot where both the client and candidate are happy. Sometimes we have to negotiate on behalf of the client, but that’s due to budgetary reasons, not us trying to make a quick buck.

6. What’s the most rewarding part of your job?
When I offer someone a position and they are genuinely happy and grateful, especially when they are out of work and need a new job. It’s nice to be the one to offer them the job and hear them get excited about the next step in their career.

7. If you could give one piece of advice to new employees, what would it be?
Learn the system and process at TECHEAD. I have only ever worked at one other firm, and there was no process or system in place there. Learning TECHEAD’s workflow has been rewarding, and I’ve seen the huge upside to having a thorough process and ATS in place.

8. What’s a skill you’d like to develop or improve?
I’m very good at sourcing and finding candidates, but I would love to improve my ability to extract information from them. Getting even more out of a candidate helps refine what they’re looking for and what levers to pull to help nudge them toward accepting a position.

9. What’s one goal you’re working toward this year?
Breaking a new client for each account manager.

Personal & Background

10. Where do you live and who do you live with?
Canton, a neighborhood in Baltimore. I live with my wife, Gabriela, and our cat, Sombra.

11. What hobbies do you have?
Golfing when it’s warm, skiing when it’s cold. I also like playing pool, video games, and enjoying a nice cigar.

12. Where is the coolest place you’ve ever visited?
Colombia, South America. My sister lived there on the coast, and my wife, mom, and I visited her for a week.

13. What cities have you lived in?
Towson, Baltimore, College Park, Catonsville. All cities in Maryland.

14. Do you own any pets?
One cat, Sombra.

15. Do you play any instruments?
Guitar. I’m okay at it — I played all four years of high school but never developed my ability much after that.

16. Do you know any other languages? If so, what are they?
I know some basic Spanish (my wife is fluent).

17. When you were young, what did you want to be when you grew up?
A professional baseball player.

18. What is one thing that not many people know about you?
I was born with a hole in my heart and had open heart surgery when I was four.

Fun & Favorites

19. If you could have dinner with anyone, living or dead, who would it be and why?
My mom’s father. I never met him, but I’ve been told we are very alike.

20. If you could have any superpower, what would it be?
The ability to time travel.

21. What’s your go-to karaoke song?
“Dragula” by Rob Zombie.

22. Coffee or tea? And how do you take it?
Coffee — a latte with milk or cream, or just regular espresso or coffee black.

23. What’s the weirdest food combination you actually enjoy?
Plain cottage cheese.

24. If you were stranded on a desert island, what three items would you want with you?
A knife, a flint and magnesium stick, and a LifeStraw.

25. Is there one TV show you never miss?
Nothing recently, but Breaking Bad when it was airing, and The Wire as well.

26. What is your favorite movie?
Dumb and Dumber.

27. What’s your favorite food and drink?
A ribeye and a gin and tonic.

28. Favorite place to eat/drink around town?
Claddagh’s Pub (where we play pool).

29. What’s the last song you listened to?
“Semi-Charmed Life.”

30. Favorite cartoon character?
Patrick Star.

31. Favorite sports team?
The Ravens.

32. Do you have any heroes (sports, business, etc.)?
My dad.

33. If you could splurge on one must-have item, what would it be?
A fully spec’d out TV.

34. What are three items still left on your bucket list?
Skydive, ski in Japan, and visit all 50 states.

Advice & Learning

35. What piece of advice would you give to your younger self?
Stop worrying and live life. Everything turns out great!

36. What’s the best piece of advice you’ve ever received?
A quote often attributed to Teddy Roosevelt — “Comparison is the thief of joy.”

37. What’s something you’ve learned recently that excited you?
I picked up golf again last year after not playing since high school, and I’ve enjoyed critiquing my form and improving.
