How long have you worked at TECHEAD and what do you like most about working here?

I joined Techead in mid-March and so far, what I love about working here is how helpful and nice everyone has been. I see so many people working to help each other and hustle to get their jobs done! Everyone gets along and is collaborative and supportive. I am looking forward to growing with the team!

Tell us about your home workplace set up during Covid stay-at-home orders.
I live in a house that was built in 1948 and “flipped” in 2016. My office is the original kitchen, or at least part of it. It’s too small to be an actual bedroom, so it’s had a lot of different uses since we first moved in. It’s a quiet little spot on the side of the house with just enough space for a desk, chair, printer and book shelf. What’s also nice is that I have a side window – and I have a space in the house that is specifically for work!

What is keeping you productive and innovative in your remote work-from-home life right now?
Getting up each morning and getting ready for the day, as if I am leaving the house for work, has helped me stay productive. I try to stay engaged with my network via phone, email and LinkedIn. It’s definitely challenging to adapt to no in-person meetings, but thankfully Google Hangouts, Zooms, Microsoft Teams and other similar technology have helped keep things feeling somewhat “in person”.

Having a dedicated space for my office that isn’t used for anything else (not a bedroom, or playroom etc.) has helped to minimize distractions.

What hobbies do you enjoy?
I enjoy being outside (as long as it’s not cold).

Reading books to help grow my knowledge and mindset.

We have so many craft breweries around Norfolk, and I enjoy trying the new IPA beers, also the food and local shows. Prior to COVID, I enjoyed group classes at the Y and have tried to replicate it with an at-home gym, but it’s just not the same!

What’s your favorite food and drink?
Mexican food all day every day and I love a good IPA.

Favorite place to eat/drink around town?
When I’m in Richmond, some of my favorite spots are Camden’s Dogtown Market, Millie’s Diner and Don’t Look Back.

Around Hampton Roads, I love trying anything new and or different!  Here is a picture of me with the Head Brewer/Co-Founder of The Veil Brewery, Matt Tarpey, and Head Chef at Codex, Ian Hock.

Do you own any pets? If so, what?
I have two dogs, Matilda (14 year old) and River. Like a lot of people over the past year, we got a puppy! Definitely helps that I’m at home working to help with all-things-puppy!

Do you have any idols (sports, business, etc.)?

I have several! Michael Jordan, Steve Jobs, Warren Buffet, Grant Cardone…and of course, Harvey Specter from Suits!

What are three items still left on your bucket list?
If COVID has taught me anything, it’s that I’ve always wanted to travel, but have put it off for a later time. I’m very much about experiences over material things and so I want to spend some time traveling, even here in the USA. But Ireland and Greece are high on my list…and Disney with my son.
