Job Description:

Position Type: 6–9 month contract

Work Schedule: Hybrid in Charlotte, NC

Compensation: $45 – $50 per hour

Job Summary

This position supports accounting, financial project controls, and comprehensive financial analysis for the organization’s Capital Investment Plan (CIP). Work is performed primarily across two core systems: a Construction and Capital Program Management System (CPMS) and an Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system (Workday).

Work involves assisting with entering information into financial systems, auditing data, performing trend analysis, reviewing project financials, validating system data, supporting system users, and conducting quality assurance audits. This position reports directly to the Capital Budget and Finance Manager.


Responsibilities:

  • Performs research into accounting discrepancies and proposes solutions to correct errors via accounting entries, imports, or other methods.
  • Analyzes exception and variance reports to identify and resolve integration discrepancies between CPMS and the ERP system.
  • Drives timely completion of financial approval steps of established business processes.
  • Creates and maintains purchase orders through change orders and reviews capital invoices for basic data integrity.
  • Audits requisitions, purchase orders, and change orders for financial data integrity.
  • Audits invoices and payment applications to support proper payments and project accounting.
  • May audit project detail information for various data integrity purposes.
  • Performs informal, internal audits of financial and other project information to ensure information is synchronized between CPMS and ERP systems.
  • Prepares clear and concise administrative and financial reports as scheduled and as needed.
  • Performs other related job duties as assigned.

Experience: 

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Finance, Accounting, Public Administration, or a closely related field from an accredited institution.
  • Experience: Five (5) years of related professional work experience performing financial functions, project control, and analysis—demonstrating strong analytical and quantitative skills (preferably in a public sector setting).
  • Software Experience: Sufficient experience with Tier 1 or Tier 2 ERP software (Workday, SAP, Oracle) or financial software, showing an aptitude to learn new financial or project management platforms quickly.
  • Knowledge of CPMS/e-Builder software, Workday, and Microsoft Office products.
  • Knowledge of the principles and practices of governmental accounting.
  • Communication skills in written, one-on-one, small group, and presentation settings.
  • Strong prioritization, organization, and coordination abilities to handle multiple projects in a fast-paced environment with tight deadlines.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships and interpersonal communication.
  • Ability to research, obtain, and provide information with accuracy and clarity.Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including pivot tables, charts, and formulas.
